The inflammation causes the body to send the right amount of cells, growth hormones and other building materials to the location of the injury When we contain it with medication or ice, we disrupt the natural course of recovery.<\/p>\n\t<\/div>\n        \n    <\/section><section class=\"b-content bg-gray\">\n    \t<div class=\"wysiwyg bg-none\">\n\t\t<h2>Less ice <\/h2>\t\t<p>Ice is a common way to contain inflammation. But it is not as harmless as it seems. For example, it disrupts inflammation and thus the natural recovery process because it causes blood vessels to constrict. This reduces blood flow at the location of the injury, making it even more difficult for the building materials that guide recovery to get there In case of an inflammation, it is precisely the intention that the blood vessels allow more of those nutrients to pass through.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, ice causes the body to release fewer local growth factors. These regulate the further course of recovery. Furthermore, you cannot prevent swelling with ice. It just comes later and lingers longer. Finally, ice has a negative effect on nerve function when training resumes immediately afterwards. It numbs the nerves allowing you to feel your body in less detail. This can negatively affect the existing injury or increase the likelihood of a new one.<\/p>\n\t<\/div>\n        \n    <\/section><section class=\"b-txt bg-pink\">\n\t<div>\n\t\t<h2>Peace &amp; Love<\/h2>        <p>Ok, no ice. But now what? Wat do we do? In terms of first aid, we go for PEACE &amp; LOVE. That acronym was introduced to the medical community in January 2020 and focuses not only on first aid but also looks beyond, toward recovery.<\/p>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/section><section class=\"b-content b-content-cols b-content-bg bg-gray\">\n    \t<div class=\"wysiwyg bg-ochre\">\n\t\t<h3>PEACE stands for<\/h3>\t\t<ul>\n<li>PROTECTION: prevent further injury to the limb, keep moving calmly. Perform only pain-free movements.<\/li>\n<li>ELEVATION: Place the injured limb above heart level, or as high as possible. This will prevent gravity from increasing swelling.<\/li>\n<li>AVOID ANTI-INFLAMMATORIES: don\u2019t use anti-inflammatory agents or ice.<\/li>\n<li>COMPRESSION: provide light pressure around the limb. This protects the limb, dampens pain and inhibits swelling. Be careful not to cut off the blood supply.<\/li>\n<li>EDUCATION: reassure the victim by giving the necessary information &#8211; but limit yourself to the information you are sure of. Understanding what is going on reduces the intensity of the &#8220;alarm signal&#8221; in the brain and consequently the pain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t<\/div>\n    \t<div class=\"wysiwyg bg-orange\">\n\t\t<h3>LOVE stands for<\/h3>\t\t<ul>\n<li>LOAD: by loading the body, especially the location of injury, in a pain-free way and building up this load slowly &#8211; using the pain as a guide &#8211; you stimulate recovery and evolve back to a strong, healthy and loadable tissue.<\/li>\n<li>OPTIMISM: confidence and a positive attitude will get you far. Those who deal with an injury optimistically tend to recover faster.<\/li>\n<li>VASCULARISATION: pain-free cardiovascular exercises improve blood flow to the injured body part, making recovery smoother. In addition, they help keep you in shape during the recovery process.<\/li>\n<li>EXERCISE: actively work on your recovery by focusing on mobility, strength and sense of movement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\t<\/div>\n        \n    <\/section><section class=\"b-content\">\n    \t<div class=\"wysiwyg bg-none\">\n\t\t<h2>Well, if you really need it to. Maybe jyst a little&#8230;<\/h2>\t\t<p>If it is really necessary to reduce the pain, you can still choose to apply a minimal dose of ice. In doing so, follow this rhythm: 5 minutes of ice &#8211; 20-minute break &#8211; 5 minutes of ice. Know that there are other ways to dampen pain besides ice, such as conscious breathing, compression and an understanding of the situation and the injury.
